In Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin, a group of friends embark on a journey to escape from a warzone in Turkey. The film's protagonist, Kadir, is a Kurd living in Southeast Turkey and an active member of the Kurdish resistance movement. When he crosses into Syria by foot to try and find his sister who had been abducted by ISIS members two years before, the film goes from being about an individual's personal quest for salvation to becoming more political. In Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin there is an ever increasing sense of urgency as the plot progresses toward its inevitable conclusion, which is both jarring and unsurprising at once. Writer/director Ayoze Perez has said that he is most influenced by films like "The Green Mile", "American Beauty", and "Paradise Now" and has cited the films of Werner Herzog as his greatest influence. At the 2009 Ankara International Film Festival, Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin won the award for Best Film in a Minor Language. On April 3, 2009 it won the award for Best Feature at the Bilbao European Fantastic Film Festival and it was shown at Fantecast in Berlin on June 17, 2009. In September 2009, it won Best Film at the Turks of Future Film Festival. In September 2009, "Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin" also won a special jury prize for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the OFF Plus Camera International Festival of Independent Cinema. The film has received a total of 16 international awards and nominations, with 10 wins thus far. "Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin" was released on DVD by Digiturk on February 22, 2009 as a standard release as well as a collector's edition. The collector's edition comes with four bonus features, which include an interview with the director, trailers, behind the scenes footage and a photo gallery. A Blu-ray release followed on June 26, 2012. Reviews of the movie have been generally positive. "Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin" currently holds a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 12 reviews with an average rating of 6/10. Most critics were also surprised at how well done it was considering it was made out of Turkey. The film has also received various awards. For example, in 2009 it won Best Film at the Turks of Future Film Festival. It was also nominated for the LUX Prize 2009, the biggest European movie award with stars like George Clooney and Benicio del Toro as jurors. "Kurtlar Vadisi Filistin" is the first installment of the Kurtlar Vadisi franchise which consists of seven films at present. The director Ayoze Perez will be directing all of these films. cfa1e77820
